The CGPSC releases the State Service Examination (SSE) notification annually, generally between November and December, announcing the number of vacancies, eligibility criteria, exam dates, and application procedures.
2. Eligibility Criteria
- Nationality: Must be an Indian citizen.
- Age Limit: Typically, candidates should be between 21-30 years (with age relaxation for reserved categories, residents of Chhattisgarh, and certain government employees).
- Educational Qualification:
- A Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
- Certain posts may require specialized qualifications.
3. Selection Procedure
The CGPSC SSE selection process is conducted in three stages:
- Preliminary Examination: Objective-type screening exam.
- Main Examination: Descriptive-type with multiple papers including General Studies, Chhattisgarh-based topics, and Hindi & Essay writing.
- Interview: Final stage for evaluating personality, aptitude, and suitability.
4. Exam Pattern
- Preliminary Exam:
- Paper I: General Studies – 100 questions, 200 marks, 2 hours
- Paper II: Aptitude Test (CSAT) – 100 questions, 200 marks, 2 hours (qualifying, requiring a minimum of 33% marks)
- Both papers are objective, and there is negative marking for incorrect answers.
- Main Exam:
- Paper I: Language – 200 marks, 3 hours
- Paper II: Essay – 200 marks, 3 hours
- Paper III: General Studies I – 200 marks, 3 hours
- Paper IV: General Studies II – 200 marks, 3 hours
- Paper V: General Studies III – 200 marks, 3 hours
- Paper VI: General Studies IV – 200 marks, 3 hours
- Paper VII: Optional Subject – 200 marks, 3 hours
- Interview:
- Carries 150 marks.
- Final selection is based on the total marks from the Main Exam and Interview.
5. Preparation Tips
- Understand the Syllabus: Carefully go through each topic, especially General Studies, which includes Chhattisgarh-specific history, culture, and geography.
- Current Affairs: Follow current events regularly, with a special focus on issues related to Chhattisgarh.
- Build Core Knowledge: Strengthen your understanding of Indian history, polity, geography, economy, science, and technology.
- Chhattisgarh-Specific Knowledge: Topics on Chhattisgarh’s history, culture, polity, and current issues are critical, so use local publications or government resources for preparation.
- Essay Writing Practice: Work on writing structured essays within the word limit. Focus on diverse topics, including social, political, and economic issues.
- Mock Tests: Practice with mock exams for both Prelims and Mains to improve time management and accuracy.
6. Syllabus Overview
- Preliminary Exam Syllabus:
- Paper I: General Studies topics include Indian History, Chhattisgarh’s history and geography, Indian Polity, Economy, Geography, General Science, Environment, and Current Affairs.
- Paper II: Aptitude Test topics include comprehension, logical reasoning, analytical ability, decision-making, and problem-solving.
- Main Exam Syllabus:
- Paper I (Language): Hindi, English, and Chhattisgarhi; includes grammar, essays, and comprehension.
- Paper II (Essay): Essays on national, international, and Chhattisgarh-specific topics.
- General Studies Papers III, IV, V, and VI: Cover a wide range of topics, including History, Culture, Geography, Indian and Chhattisgarh-specific Polity, Economy, Technology, Environmental Issues, and Ethics.
- Optional Subject (Paper VII): Candidates choose an optional subject from the CGPSC list (e.g., Sociology, Public Administration, Anthropology).
