Examination Pattern and details
Tripura Civil Service Eligibility Criteria: Tripura Public Service Commission’s Tripura Civil Service Grade-II & Tripura Police Service Grade-II exam eligibility details are given below :
Eligibility Conditions:
(a) Nationality: A candidate must be a citizen of India as defined in part-II of Constitution of India.
(b) Age: A candidate shall not be below 21 years and over 40 years of age on the first day of the month in which applications are invited, on the basis of Madhyamik., Higher Secondary or equivalent examination Certificate/ Admit Card. Provided that the upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for the candidates belonging to Sch. Castes, Sch. Tribes, Differently able Persons (PH) and Government servants and any other relaxation as admissible for competitive examinations.
(c) Educational qualification: A candidate must hold Degree of a recognized University.
(d) Physical Fitness & Medical Examination: A candidate must be in a good mental and bodily health and free from any physical defect likely to interfere with the discharge of his/her duties as an officer of the service. A candidate who after such medical Examination as the Government or the Appointing Authority as the case may be, may prescribe is found not to satisfy these requirements, will not be appointed. Any candidate called for the personality Test by the Commission may be required to undergo the Medical Examination.
Selection Process
The TPSC exam is conducted in 3 stages such as Preliminary Exam, Main Exam and Personality Test (Interview) and after successfully passing all three stages a candidate undergoes training of 2 years and thereafter serves as a Civil Servant.
(1) Preliminary Examination (Objective Type & Multiple choice)
(2) Main Examination (Objective / Conventional Type)
(3) Interview (Personality Test)
(a) The Examination will be held in three stages namely (i) Preliminary Examination (Multiple Choice type question pattern only) (ii) Main Examination and (iii) Personality Test. The Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Personality Test will carry 200 marks, 800 marks and 100 marks respectively.
(b) In case of Preliminary Examination (MCQ) there shall be negative marking of ¼(One-fourth) of the marks assigned to that question for each wrong answer/multiple answers.
(c) In case of Main Examination provision of negative marking, if there be any, will be notified in due course.
Preliminary Examination: The Preliminary Examination is meant to serve as a screening test only for the purpose of selection of candidates for the Main Examination. The marks obtained in this examination by the candidates will not be considered for final selection. Only those candidates who will be declared qualified at the Preliminary Examination will be eligible for admission to the TCS and TPS Main Examination. A number of candidates, maximum 10 (ten) times of total posts (category wise) will be selected merit wise on the basis of the result of the Preliminary Examination, subject to securing minimum qualifying marks as fixed by the Commission. These selected candidates will be allowed to appear in the Main Examination.
Main Examination: Only those candidates who have qualified in preliminary examination will be called for main examination. Main Examination will be conducted for 800 Marks. The candidate shall select 3(three) optional papers from among the list of optional papers. The selected candidates on the basis of the results of the Main Examination will be allowed to appear in the Personality Test
Personality Test: The selected candidates on the basis of the results of the Main Examination will be allowed to appear in the Personality Test. Personality test will be conducted for 100 marks. The final selection will be made in order of merit on the basis of the marks obtained by a candidate in Main Examination, in aggregate, adding the marks obtained in the Personality Test.

Scheme For Mains Examination
The Papers/Subjects are specified below. Papers from S. No. 1 to 5 are Compulsory papers and from 6 to 8 are optional papers which are to be selected by the candidate from the list of optional subjects. The standard of all compulsory papers will be of the level expected from a graduate of any recognized University.

Optional Paper
The candidate shall select three optional papers from among the list of optional papers. The candidate shall indicate in the application Paper-I or Paper-II against the optional papers chosen by them.

Language Allowed In Answering Question
- The question in Compulsory papers at serial 1 to 3 shall be answered in the languages concerned.
- The question in Compulsory papers at serial 4 & 5 may be answered either in English or in Bengali but in no other languages.
- The question in Optional papers other than language papers (i.e English, Bengali and Sanskrit) may be answered either in English on in Bengali but in no other languages.
Minimum Qualifying Marks
The Commission at its discretion may fix the minimum qualifying marks in any or all of the Written papers and in the aggregate. If a candidate fails to secure qualifying marks in any paper, Compulsory or Optional, so fixed the marks in that paper will not be considered in calculating the aggregate.
Personality Test
(a) The Test shall be to assess the personal qualities of the candidate’s e.g. intellectual ability, social taints, interest in current affairs, critical power of judgement, variety and depth of interest, an ability for leadership, and moral integrity.
(b) In no case a candidate will be called for Personality Test unless he/ she appears in all the papers of the Examination: compulsory papers and Optional papers offered.
Final Selection
The final selection will be made in order of merit on the basis of the marks obtained by a candidate in aggregate adding the marks obtained in the Written Examination and the Personality Test. If a candidate remains absent in Personality Test his/her candidature will not be considered for final selection.
