Sikkim Public Service Commission (SPSC) has released a notification on its official website to conduct Junior Grade of Sikkim State Civil Service Exam Under Secretary and equivalent. The recruitment will be done on temporary regular basis. The interested candidates fulfilling the eligibility criteria can apply in prescribed application format.

Age Limit: The age limit of candidates should be between 21 – 30 years 

The relaxation in age is applicable as per rules.

Educational Qualification: Candidates are required to posses Graduation Degree from a recognized University.

Plan of Examination

The competitive examination comprises three successive stages :

1. Sikkim State Civil Services (Preliminary) Examinations

Screening Test (Objective Type) for the selection of candidates for Main Examination

2. Sikkim State Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written)

3. Interview

Sikkim PSC Preliminary Examination Syllabus

The Preliminary Examination will consist of two papers of Objective type (multiple choice questions) and carry a maximum of 300 marks in each paper as set out in Part (A) of Section-2. This examination is meant to serve as a screening test only. The marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination by the candidates who are declared qualified for admission to the Main Examination will not be counted for determining their final order of merit. 

The number of candidates to be admitted to the Main Examination will be about twelve to thirteen times the total approximate number of vacancies in each category of reservation to be filled in the year. Only those candidates who are declared by the Commission to have qualified in the Preliminary Examination will be eligible for admission to the Main Examination.

Current events of national and international importance

History of India and Indian National Movement

Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World

Indian Polity and Governance - Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.

Economic and Social Development - Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.

General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change - that do not require subject specialisation.

General Science

Sikkim PSC Main Examination Syllabus

The question papers for the main examination will be of conventional type.

Syllabus for Sikkim PSC Main Exam Optional Subjects

The Main Examination will consist of a written examination and an Interview Test. The written examination will consist of 4 papers of conventional type carrying 800 marks in aggregate. The breakup of the total marks, paper wise, and time are specified against each papergiven below :

Paper II	General English & Short essay	100 marks	1 ½hrs
Paper III	Optional – I	300 marks	3 hrs
Paper IV	Optional – II	300 marks	3 hrs

Candidates who obtain such minimum qualifying marks in the written part of the Main Examination, as may be fixed by the Commission at their discretion, shall be called for interview. The marks obtained in these papers will be counted for ranking. 

The number of candidates to be called for the interview will be about twice the number of vacancies to be filled. The interview will carry 100 marks (with no minimum qualifying marks).

Marks thus obtained by the candidates in the Main Examination (written) as well as in the interview would determine their final ranking.

(f) Management and Public Administration;

(g) Of the Engineering subjects, viz., Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering–not more than one subject.

(i) Among the language papers viz Hindi, Nepali and English candidates will be allowed to opt only one subject.

Interview

Interview Test will carry 100 marks.

What kind of strategy needs for final selection?

Everyone asks oneself how we can become a civil servant. How to go about preparation? It is depends on how much time you have at your disposal. But lake of right direction we are unable to find wanted success in the competitive exam. In our view, for civil services exam needs at least 10 months of decent preparation. Actually time frame is not working same with each competitors, it is depends on the calibre of hard labour of study and gaining/memorise of the facts.

1. We can clear civil service exam in the first attempt, with positive mindset and a right strategy.

2. You need to know about the essential books and study materials/notes to crack the exams.

3. Before planning of preparation you should solving past 10 years question papers.

4. Go through the subject study with emphasis according to syllabus mentioned by the commission.

5. At least 4 months before prelims exam just start reading facts based study notes.

6. One month before appearing in the prelims exam test yourself through mock test papers.

7. Follow any two newspapers editorials regularly.

8. Read at least 3 competitive exams monthly magazines.

9. Listening radio and news channels daily.

10. Simultaneously start reading NCERTs from class 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th class.

12. Once you have gained decent enough knowledge, should start writing answers for main exam.
