3. Selection Procedure
TNPSC exams have a multi-stage selection process depending on the group:
- Group I: Prelims, Mains, and Interview.
- Group II: Prelims, Mains (descriptive paper for selected posts), and Interview (only for Group II-A posts).
- Group IV: Single-stage exam (written) followed by counseling based on merit.
4. Exam Pattern
- Group I:
- Preliminary Exam: Single objective paper with 200 questions, 300 marks, 3 hours (general studies, aptitude, and mental ability).
- Main Exam: Descriptive papers (three papers) covering general studies and essay topics – each paper carries 250 marks.
- Interview: Carries 100 marks.
- Group II:
- Preliminary Exam: Objective paper with 200 questions, 300 marks, 3 hours (general studies, Tamil eligibility test, and aptitude).
- Main Exam: Two parts, Part A (Tamil-to-English translation) and Part B (essay writing), both together carrying 300 marks.
- Interview: For Group II-A posts, the interview is worth 40 marks.
- Group IV:
