2. Assam Judiciary Selection Procedure

3. Assam Judiciary Exam Pattern

  • Preliminary Examination:

    • Objective-type questions with a total of 100 marks.
    • Duration: 2 hours.
    • The exam covers general knowledge, aptitude, Constitution of India, IPC, CPC, CrPC, and other key legal subjects.
  • Main Examination:

    • Consists of four written papers:
      • Paper I: English (essay, précis writing, translation, etc.)
      • Paper II: General Knowledge, which includes current affairs and aptitude questions.
      • Paper III: Law Paper I (CPC, Transfer of Property Act, Contract Law, and other civil laws)
      • Paper IV: Law Paper II (IPC, CrPC, Evidence Act, and other criminal laws)
    • Each paper carries 100 marks, and the duration for each paper is 3 hours.
  • Interview/Viva Voce:

    • Carries 50 marks.
    • Evaluates the candidate’s personality, confidence, legal knowledge, and overall suitability for the judiciary.

  • Main Examination:

    • Paper I: English - Essay writing, précis writing, comprehension, and translations.
    • Paper II: General Knowledge - Current affairs, important events, and basic aptitude.
    • Paper III: Law Paper I - Topics include the CPC, Transfer of Property Act, Contract Act, Hindu and Muslim Law, and Specific Relief Act.
    • Paper IV: Law Paper II - Topics include IPC, CrPC, Indian Evidence Act, and other criminal laws.

  • Candidates will have to score at least 60% marks (30 Marks) to be eligible for the final selections
  • The final rankings will be based on the aggregate scores of the Main Exam Papers (except Language Papers) and the Interview Marks
