HCS Pre cum Main Exam 2023 Complete Study Notes Available

Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) has released the notification for the Haryana Civil Services (HCS) and Allied Services Examination 2023. Eligible Male and Female Indian Citizens can apply online for the Haryana Civil Service Exam 2023 from the website hpsc.gov.in

HPSC HCS Notification PDF

HCS is called Haryana Civil Services, which is a state-level civil services examination conducted by the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC). The HCS exam is conducted for the recruitment for the state of Haryana, various administrative and police services as fallows :

  • Haryana Civil Service (Executive Branch)

  • Deputy Superintendent of Police (D.S.P.)

  • Excise and Taxation Officer

  • District Food and Supplies Controller

  • ‘A’ Class Tehsildar

  • Assistant Registrar Cooperative Societies

  • Assistant Excise & Taxation Officer

  • Block Development & Panchayat Officer

The HCS exam is conducted in three stages:

  1. Preliminary Written Exam (200 Marks)

  2. Mains Written Exam (600 Marks)

  3. Personality Test/ Interview (75 Marks)

The syllabus for the HCS exam generally covers topics related to Indian polity, history, economy, geography, environment, science and technology, current affairs, and general knowledge. The level of questions asked in the exam is generally of graduation level.

To prepare for the HCS exam, candidates should start by understanding the exam pattern and syllabus. They should then create a study plan and devote sufficient time to each subject. Candidates should also practice previous years' question papers and take mock tests to assess their preparation and identify areas of improvement.

Overall, the HCS exam is a highly competitive exam, and candidates need to work hard and stay focused to crack it. HPSC HCS Eligibility Criteria

Haryana Civil Services eligibility criteria are defined in the HCS notification. The eligibility criteria for the HCS exam define three parameters that a candidate needs to meet before appearing in the HCS exam. These eligibility criteria are defined:

Educational Qualifications Required for HCS

A candidate must be a graduate in any discipline from a recognised university. The candidates appearing in the last year of their graduation degree course can apply but the date of the final year mark sheet or scoresheet should be before the HCS closing date. The degree certificate/ mark sheet should bear the date prior to the HCS closing date. The HCS application closes 30 days after the notification, so it is very difficult to gain the final year mark sheet in that date period. The candidates could be disqualified at a later stage because of this.  

Age limit for HCS Exam

  • Age Limit (DSP): 21-27 Years

  • Age Limit (Others): 21-42 Years (As on 1.1.2023)

Age Limit and Physical Standards for D.S.P

For the post of Haryana D.S.P, the lower age limit is 21 years, and the upper age limit for the unreserved category candidates is 27 years.

HCS Examinaion Pattern

The HCS/ Haryana Public Service Commission exam will be Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) comprising of the three stages.

Stage 1---Preliminary Examination

(Objective Type/ Multiple Choice) for screening purpose only.

The Preliminary Exam Shall Comprise of two papers of Objective type (multiple choice questions) and carry a maximum of 200 marks as under.

1. Preliminary Exam

It consists of two papers i.e. General Studies & General Aptitude.

General Studies Paper

It includes the following subjects:

  • General Science.
  • Current events of national and international importance.
  • History of India and Indian National Movement.
  • Indian and World Geography.
  • Indian Culture, Indian Polity and Indian Economy.
  • General Mental Ability.
  • Haryana–Economy, and people. Social, economic and cultural institutions and language of Haryana.

General Aptitude Paper

It includes:

  • Comprehension
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills
  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  • Decision making and problem-solving
  • General mental ability
  • Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, the order of magnitude, etc. – Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency, etc. – Class X level)

Stage 2 : Main Examination

(Conventional Essay Type)

Candidates qualified in Stage 1 (normally fifteen times of the vacancies advertised) are allowed to take the Main Examination.

The Main Exam Shall Comprise of five papers as given below followed by Vica Voca.

  • Of the Engineering Subjects viz. Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering-not more than one subject.

Candidates fifteen times the number of vacancies advertised will be admitted to the Main Examination.The question paper for pre-examination will be set in English Only.Candidate thrice the number of vacancies advertised will be selected for Personality Test.The candidate who qualifies for the Main Exam will have to apply again on the separate application form which will be supplied by the Haryana Public Service Commision free of cost.

Personality Test /Interview: Candidates who are shortlisted in the Written Examination are required to appear for an Interview.

Important:

  1. All the papers shall be of three hours duration.
  2. The candidate shall have the option to answer the papers of General Knowledge and three optional subjects either in English or in Hindi medium but no candidate is permitted to answer any of their papers partly in Hindi and partly in English.

HCS Exam Syllabus

Compulsory Subjects

1. English and English Essay

Questions to test the candidate's capacity to understand and write good English. The paper will comprise precis writing expansion, tests in vocabulary and any other form of composition that may be suitable.

2. Hindi and Hindi Essay (in Devnagri Script)

  1. Translation of an English passage into Hindi.
  2. Explanation of Hindi passage into prose & poetry in the same language.
  3. Composition (idioms, corrections etc)

3. General Knowledge including everyday Science

This paper is intended to test the candidate's knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientist aspect as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject. The paper will also include questions of historical, geographical and economic importance, with special reference to Haryana.

4. Viva-voce

The Viva-voce will be to test the personal qualities of the candidate. This test will be in matters of general interest and is intended to test the candidate's alertness, intelligence and general outlook. Consideration will also be paid to the bearing and physique of the candidate. It will be conducted either in Hindi or in English depending upon the option exercised by a candidate.

4. Chemistry : Physical, Inorganic and Organic.
5. Civil Engineering

6. Commerce and Accountancy    

  1. Trade and Transport.Or
  2. Advanced Accountancy and Auditing. Or
  3. Business Organisation Management.

7. Economics

  1. Nature and scope of Economics systems and their functions.
  2. Micro Economic Analysis; National Income and Expenditure, Major Determinants of Income and Employment.
  3. Micro Economic Analysis; Demand Analysis, Price Formation under various Market Categories, Distributive shares.
  4. Structure of Indian Economy
    • Sectoral distribution of working force.
    • Problems of Agricultural Development and Reorganization.
    • Industrial Development policy.
    • India's Foreign Trade and Payments.
    • India's Five Year Plans.

8. Electrical Engineering

9. English Literature: Candidates will be expected to show a General Knowledge of the History of English Literature from the time os Spencer to the end of the reign of Queen Victoria with special reference to works of the following authors:
Shakespeare, Milton, Johnson, Carlyle, Dickens. Words worth, Keats Tennyson, Dardey.
Evidence of first-hand reading will be required.
10. Geography

  1. Physical basis of Geography of the world.
  2. Regional and Economic Geography of the world with special reference to India.
