Gujarat Judicial Services Exam 2024

The Gujarat Judiciary Exam is a state-level examination conducted by the High Court of Gujarat for the recruitment of Civil Judges in the state judiciary. The exam is conducted in three stages - preliminary examination, main examination, and interview.

The eligibility criteria for the Gujarat Judiciary exam include a Bachelor's degree in Law from a recognized university and the age of the candidate should not be less than 21 years and more than 35 years. However, there are age relaxations for certain categories of candidates.

The syllabus for the Gujarat Judiciary exam includes topics such as the Indian Constitution, Contract Law, Property Law, Criminal Law, Civil Law, and General Knowledge. The exam pattern for the preliminary exam includes multiple-choice questions, while the main exam consists of descriptive type questions.

Candidates who qualify for the Gujarat Judiciary exam are appointed as Civil Judges in the state judiciary. As a Civil Judge, the candidate will be responsible for hearing and deciding cases in civil and criminal matters. The job also involves administrative duties such as case management, record-keeping, and other related functions.

Eligibility Criteria

If you are willing to apply for the exam, you must satisfy the Judiciary Exam Eligibility Criteria set by the Gujarat High Court.

Go through the required criteria in terms of age and qualification from the post below.

Educational Qualification

  • You must hold a degree in Law from any recognized university by Indian Law and practice as an Advocate in Courts of Civil or Criminal Jurisdiction on the last date of online application form submission. (or)
  • If you passed the Law Degree in 2011-2021 and onwards, you must have also given the All India Bar examination to be eligible for the Gujarat civil judge exam 2022. (or)
  • You must be working in the Courts, or other Allied Departments on the last date fixed to receive applications. (or)
  • Also, you must have a basic knowledge of Computer Applications from a government institute or any other recognized institute.

Age Limit

  • As per the notification, your age should be below 35 years if you belong to the general category to apply for the Gujarat Civil Judge Exam 2022.
  • For SC/ST category, the maximum age limit is 38 years.
  • If you work in the Courts or other Allied Departments, your age should not exceed 40 years.

Gujarat High Court Civil Judge Exam Fee

Fees of the Gujarat High Court Civil Judge Exam depend on the category you belong to. If you belong to the general category, you have to pay Rs.1,000 and other bank charges for the exam.

The application fee is Rs. 500 if you belong to a scheduled tribe, scheduled caste, physically disabled person, educationally or socially backward classes, ex-servicemen, etc. 

There is a separate section of payment, where you will be able to pay the fee through SBI e-Pay by clicking on the Pay fee option.

Gujarat High Court Civil Judge Exam Pattern 2022

According to the Judiciary Exam Pattern, there are three stages in the selection process for the Gujarat civil judge post: prelims, mains, and interview/viva-voce.

Preliminary Exam Pattern

The Preliminary Examination of the Gujarat Judiciary will be an objective type of examination.

  • The prelims question paper consists of 100 questions, and each question carries one mark.
  • Out of 100 questions, 75 questions are in English, and 25 will be in Gujarat.
  • Also, there is a negative marking of 0.33 for each wrongly answered question. 
  • The time duration of the prelims exam is 2 hours.
  • You have to score a minimum of 50% marks in the prelims exam to get shortlisted for the mains examination.

Mains Exam Pattern

The Gujarat Judiciary mains examination consists of three papers:

  • Paper 1: Criminal
  • Paper 2: Civil
  • Paper 3: Gujarati language

Paper 1 and paper 2 shall carry 75 marks each, and the time duration is 2.5 hours.

Paper 3 carries 50 marks and the time duration of the exam is 1.5 hours.

You can take paper 1 and paper 2 either in the English language or in the Gujarati language. You have to secure a minimum of 50% marks in the mains exam to get shortlisted for the viva-voce.

Viva-Voce Test (Oral Interview)

The viva-voce shall carry 50 marks. The main objective of the viva-voce is to assess your suitability for the cadre by judging the knowledge of the Law, the balance of the judgment, mental alertness, clear and logical exposition, attitude, skills, ethics, power of communication, power of assimilation, intellectual depth.

You need to score at least 40% marks in this test to get selected for the Civil Judge post in Gujarat.

The prelims question paper consists of Part A, Part B, and Part C.

English Language, General Knowledge, Mental/Numerical/Basic Computer Applications, Test of Reasoning.

  • Among all the 100 questions, 75 questions will be in English, and the other 25 questions in the Gujarat language.
  • To be eligible in the preliminary exam, you need to score at least 50% marks for the main examination. However, the commission will not consider the marks obtained in the prelims exam while preparing the final merit list.
  • The computer shall evaluate all the entries of the preliminary examination paper. The High Court does not entertain any queries related to rechecking the OMR sheet as all the evaluations are done by computer scanning without any human intervention.

Gujarat Judiciary Mains Exam Syllabus

There are three papers in the main written examination: Criminal, Civil, and Gujarati Language.
