The High Court of Jharkhand, Ranchi has released the vacancy details for recruiting Civil Judge (Junior Division) of the Jharkhand Judicial Service. Comprising existing and future vacancies, a total of 86 vacancies will be filled via the recruitment process. It must be noted that the recruitment process is going to be conducted via preliminary entrance test, main examination and viva-voce test.

The preliminary entrance test will be qualifying in nature. It will be a written examination having a multiple choice question (MCQ) or objective-type pattern. Candidates who will qualify for this test are going to be eligible for the main examination. The test will be held for 100 marks spanning over a duration of 02 hours. However, the marks obtained will not be counted for the purpose of final selection. There is no negative marking on the test.

The online application forms are not yet out and will be available in due time. All applications have to be submitted via the official website of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC), i.e. jpsc.gov.in. Candidates must fill out the application form as per the provisions and instructions are given in the official advertisement.

Examination Pattern and details

Jharkhand Civil Judge (Junior Division) Preliminary Exam

Preliminary Entrance Test means Written Examination (Multiple Choice Questions/Objective Type) only and the candidates declared successful in this test shall be eligible for the Main Examination.

Jharkhand Judicial service as are following Preliminary exam will carry maximum 100 marks.

Negative marking or minus will not applicable in this examination.

Total 2 hour time duration will be given for attempting the question paper in pre examination.

The Syllabus for the Preliminary Entrance Test shall consist of :

(i) General English

(ii) General Knowledge (including Current Affairs)

(iii) The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908.

(iv) The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973.

(v) The Indian Evidence Act, 1872.

(vi) The Law of Contract, 1872.

(vii) The Indian Penal Code, 1860.

Jharkhand Judicial Service Civil Judge (Junior Division) Main examination

Main Examination means Written Examination (Subjective) and the candidates declared successful in this Test shall be eligible for Viva-Voce Test.

Main examination will comprise four question paper.

Each question paper will carry 100 marks.

Duration of Main Examination shall be of three hours for each paper.

Syllabus for main exam

Paper - I

(i) Procedural Law (The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 and The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973).

(ii) The Indian Penal Code, 1860.

(iii) The Indian Evidence Act, 1872.

(iv) The Limitation Act, 1963.

Paper - II

(i) The Contract Act, 1872

(ii) The Sales of Goods Act, 1930

(iii) The Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881

(iv) The Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996

(v) The Transfer of Property Act, 1882

Paper - III

(i) The Hindu Law and The Mohammedan Law

(ii) Rent Control Law.

(iii) The Specific Relief Act, 1963

(iv) Jurisprudence latest JPSC advertisement 2016 ,

Paper IV (Language)

Hindi & English (Essay, Precise writing, Translation & Paraphrase) 10.

Viva-Voce

Viva-Voce Test means an Oral Examination.

There shall be Viva-Voce Test of 100 marks. In the Viva-Voce Test the minimum required qualifying marks would be 25% for the General category candidates and 20% for SC/ST/EBC & BC.

No candidates, irrespective of the marks obtained by him in the Main Examination, shall be eligible for selection for appointment, if he obtains less than minimum prescribed marks in the Viva-Voce Test.

The final selection list shall be prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in the Main Examination and the Viva-Voce Test both.

In case of tie of marks between the candidates in the final selection list,their selection will be made firstly on the basis of qualification, i.e., person having Post Graduate Degree in Law shall be given preference and thereafter on the basis of experience, if any, in legal practice and still if necessary, on the basis of seniority in age.
